Antique Brown Agate Cabochon Ring 14K Yellow Gold Filigree Unique Naturalistic Vintage Engagement Ring Size 6!
I love vintage rings not only for their beauty but because they are unique and was so excited to discuss this beautiful estate find with our local jeweler who identified it as a type of brown agate and it has such an earthy look to it and almost could be a ring from the Art Nouveau era but its' age is only an estimate. Another admirer called it "a fire agate without the fire!" Research shows that Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts jewelers preferred agates versus traditional gemstones like diamonds, rubies, and sapphires because their appearance was more naturalistic. Since I am not a jeweler or gemologist, I purchased the ring because of the overall vintage character and beauty of the ring and no matter whether a piece of agate or unknown gemstone, I had to add it to our vintage jewelry collection for one of our customers to enjoy! The oval cabochon shaped agate stone sits proudly in the center of the setting measuring approximately 15mm by 10mm held in place by four claw prongs in a 14K yellow gold setting with two folded over decorative leaves on the shoulder shank and a stunning scroll type gold cut out under galley! The entire setting measures 16mm north/south by 12.5mm east/west with a 7mm rise and the decorative shoulder shank width is 6mm tapering to 2mm and can be sized by an expert jeweler.
